Welcome to the first ever Destination Daydreams! It highlights 5 reasons you should visit an amazing destination. This week its a quick guide to PEI. What's PEI you ask? Find out below!
Sometimes the best adventures begin with a simple "yes."
When my coworker suggested a trip to PEI, I agreed before with no other information. I didn't even know what PEI stood for 🫣😅. Prince Edward Island is what it stands for FYI.
She mentioned "Anne of Green Gables" had something to do with the island later and that it was a Canadian province.
Little did I know this spontaneous decision would lead me to a place that would steal my heart completely – even displacing my beloved Madrid as my favorite destination in the world.
There's something magical about PEI that's hard to capture in words. But I'll try so you'll get an idea, it's island serenity mixed with small town charms with beautiful landscapes and a pace that's only as fast as you want it to be to experience it all.
It's the perfect spot to just "be" and do things at your own pace. There's no rushing here.
Why PEI Calls to Solo Travelers
The island is calm and moves at it's own pace. There's a level of trust here. When I went in 2017 they had self service fuel first pay after gas stations. 🫢 Read that again. Fuel First pay after gas stations. Can you imagine?
It has historic charm and a costal drive that will leave you speechless (more on that below). You'll discover the freshest seafood, the best potatoes (in my opinion), and locals who treat you like long-lost friends. For "Anne of Green Gables" fans, this island is pure magic, but even if you've never read the books, PEI's charm will capture your heart.
5 Experiences That Will Stay With You
Green Gables Heritage Place A historic site that feels just like stepping into the famous story books that bare it's name. You can walk down the well-worn paths through the Haunted Wood and Lover's Lane from the books and walk the grounds. Worth every moment for even non Anne fans.
Cavendish Beach You'll experience the amazing contrast between red cliffs, sweeping dunes, and crystal-clear waters creates visual experience that seems almost too beautiful to be real. While you'll enjoy taking photos here for IG, it's really best savored with the eyes. This is the place that made me FALL hard for the whole island. I think about this place at least once a week.
PEI National Park Whether you're pedaling along coastal trails or finding your own private dune for an afternoon of reflection, the park offers endless opportunities for both adventure and solitude. Catch the Greenwich boardwalk at sunset – it's a moment you'll never forget.
Charlottetown's Historic Heart The capital city feels like a Victorian novel come to life. Wander past historic hotels, catch an Anne-themed production at the local theater, and let each charming street corner reveal its own story to you. If you enjoy seafood, Lobster dinner is worth it. But make a reservation it fills up quickly!
North Cape Coastal Drive This 350km (217-mile) journey around the island is more than just a drive – it's a journey for the soul. While you could technically complete it in 5 hours, don't. Take a full day, or better yet, split it into segments. Stop often, take in the views, see the landmarks, enjoy the moments. This is where the island truly works it's magic.
When to Experience PEI's Magic
Summer (June to September): The weather is warm, and everything feels alive with possibility.
Fall (September to October): A quieter time when autumn paints the landscape in golden hues.
A Gentle Reminder: Island time is different here. Let go of your usual pace and embrace the slower rhythm – it's in those unhurried moments that PEI reveals its true magic.
